- Geyser Country
This area in the southwest of the park contains 180 of the park's
200-250 geysers. The most famous being Old Faithful (see next sight).
- Old Faithful Geyser
Location: West of Yellowstone Lake, well signposted on main road.
First stop off point for many visitors to the park. This world famous
landmark geyser bubbles away continuously and spouts high into the
air every 80 minutes or so. A timer counts down the minutes to each
eruption. Walkways have been constructed to allow good viewing.
- Yellowstone Lake
Set in the centre of the park, this is one of the world's largest
alpine lakes. The Absaroka Mountains run to the southeast of the lake
and Lake Village is to the northwest, with its historic Lake Yellowstone
Hotel.
- Grand Canyone of the Yellowstone
This beautiful canyone in the northeast area of the park has some
incredible views and vantage points. The most notable is Artist
Point along South Rim Drive. Mud Volcano is also an attraction
in this area.
- Mammoth Country
This area in the north and northwest of the park is the United States'
oldest known continuously active geothermal area at 115,000 years.
Mammoth Hot Springs is one such area, located just south of
the North Entrance.
The Gallatin Range runs in the west of Mammoth Country and
offers hiking and trails.
