Introduction to Gettysburg

"Four score and seven years ago…" is the beginning of one of our Nation's greatest speeches. It was delivered by President Abraham Lincoln a mere four months after the Battle of Gettysburg. This battle is the most widely recognized battle of the Civil War.

The Gettysburg National Military Park is the most visited, written about, and intensely studied battle ever recorded. It is the largest battlefield shrine in America with more than 1,000 monuments and cannons. The rolling hills, wheat fields, and mountain area provide a view of America that is informative and awe-inspiring. The wooded areas and fields lead up to Little Round Top, an area along the driving tour where visitors can walk up to the top of the hill to stand where General Robert E. Lee once stood.

Visitors can walk the fields where brave men fell in battle, and where history was made.
Few people know that the Battle of Gettysburg was the bloodiest battle of American history. But Gettysburg, PA is not only home to battlefields; this town offers a variety of fairs, festivals, and special events year round.

2003 marks the 140th reenactment of The Battle of Gettysburg. July 4, 5, and 6 will be the largest Civil War Reenactment of the Decade. Ticket prices to relive this historical event range from $10.00 per child and $20.00 per adult for a one day admission. Grandstand tickets are an extra charge and multi day passes are available. A schedule of events and additional prices are available at the Official Gettysburg Reenactment Website - www.gettysburgreenactment.com
