Travelling to and Around Santa Monica
Santa Monica is located at the western fringe of Los Angeles,
between the coastal towns of Malibu to the north and Venice to the south.
By Road
Highway 10 starts at the foot of Santa Monica Pier and
heads its way through Downtown LA and across the USA to Florida. Downtown
Los Angeles is 13 miles away.
The Pacific Coast Highway (California 1) heads north from
Santa Monica Pier.
Santa Monica Boulevard (historic Route 66) also starts here and works
its way to Beverly Hills and Hollywood.
By Air
Santa Monica is located 8 miles north of Los Angeles International
Airport (LAX), which offers worldwide flights and is
one of the world's busiest airports. Regular Big Blue Buses (line #3)
travel to LAX for 50c. Most hotels offer an airport shuttle.
Santa Monica Airport is only open to private aircraft.
By Train
Amtrak (www.amtrak.com)
serve Santa Monica from their Union Station at 800 N Alameda Avenue in
downtown LA.
Public Transport
Santa Monica is home to the Big Blue Bus
line (www.bigbluebus.com)
and is also served by Los Angeles MTA buses
Greyhound buses serve Santa Monica from
their station at 1716 E. 7th Street in downtown Los Angeles. A daily shuttle
connects to Santa Monica at 10.30am. |
