Malta
Malta Travel Information
Malta is efficiently served
by sea, air and travel communications.
By Air
Air
Malta, the national airline, operates scheduled and
charter services.
Scheduled services of varying frequencies link Malta with Amsterdam, Athens,
Bahrain, Barcelona, Berlin, Birmingham, Brussels, Budapest, Cairo, Casablanca,
Catania, Copenhagen, Damascus, Dubai, Dublin, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Genoa,
Glasgow, Hamburg, Istanbul, Larnaca, Lisbon, London Gatwick, London Heathrow,
Lyons, Madrid, Manchester, Marseilles, Milan, Monastir, Munich, New York,
Oslo, Palermo, Paris, Rome, Stockholm, Tel Aviv, Tunis, Vienna and Zurich.
Foreign airline operators such as British
Airways also provide scheduled services
Tour companies offer tours to all the island tourist sites and historical
locations at very reasonable rates. A day trip to Sicily by hydrofoil
including your coach trip to Mt. Etna can be purchased for under $100.00
You can connect via several European hubs but London is unquestionably
the most convenient and offers the greatest variety of flights. I have
found that I do better arranging separate flights with the individual
carriers than trying to book straight through to Malta with one airline.
British
Jet is a new player offering discount flights from England
to Malta.
Public Transport
Whilst traffic is growing
at an almost uncontrollable rate - Malta's population still relies on
their bus system for most of their local travel requirements.
Whilst a taxi from the main tourist districts to the
capital of Valletta can cost over $30.00, the bus equivalent would be
less than 30 cents!
Bus travel is extremely affordable - 30p (.90c) will
take you all the away across the island.
