Malta
Eating in Malta
I enjoy my 'English Breakfast'
- Sausages, Eggs, Baked Beans, Tomatoes, and Toast for just over Lm 1.00
($3.00). Local pasta dishes of baked macaroni for example is very cheap.
Wine is also very cheap - particularly the local varieties,
which as a non-drinker I am told, are very good. Wine is an important
local product and Malta exports grapes to Europe.
Our favorite dining experience is a Japanese restaurant
located in Sliema. One of the main tourist locations.
It will cost you about Lm 10.00 per head with wine! (US$30.00).
The American Ambassador was kind enough to recommend Bacchus,
an enchanting restaurant located in a historic building in the heart of
the ancient walled capitol of M'dina. It too has become
one of our first choices (Bacchus was all but destroyed by fire recently
however no one was hurt and I'm sure it will be back up and running by
the time you read this).
Rabbit is a favorite delicacy and they are bred for the
table.
Seafood is plentiful and fishermen bring their daily
catch to the picturesque fishing village of Marsaxlokk.
Every Sunday the harbor is lined with market stalls at this popular tourist
destination.
