Eating in Annecy
Annecy
is frequented by many tourists every year and the amount of bars, restaurants
and cafes reflect this. But it is not a negative aspect of the town -
the area around the canals in the old town is brimming with excellent
cuisine and waterside terraces which are simply superb.
For traditional France, you will find
quieter family-run establishments away from the hub of activity.
Amongst the best eateries are:
Des Vielles Prisons
Rue Perriere
Brasserie and cafe away from the canal in the livelier
part of the old town. The restaurant is very smart and not for those on
a budget.
Cafe des Arts
Palace d'Isle
Set in the courtyard of the Palace d'Isle, this is the most traditional
French cafe you'll find in the old town. Inexpensive but very popular.
Cafe des Dues
Rue des Vielles Prisons
Situated alongside the picturesque (especially at night) Palace d'Isle,
with a fantastic terrace alongside the canal. Serves traditional French
cuisine in a smart surrounding.
Pizzeria le Vivaldi
Place aux Bois
Set back slightly from the canal, close to the lake. This is a friendly,
unassuming Italian restaurant with great service and food, and inexpensive
prices.
Brasserie De L'Hotel de Ville
Place St. Maurice
A huge traditional Parisian-style cafe, if a little faux. Great selection
of food and reasonable prices. Close to the lake and shopping area.
